I dutifully followed but I kinda noticed that not too many people in my area were doing the same thing.
I am consoling myself with the saying that every change starts with one.

"I am only one but still I am one. I cannot do everything but still I can do something. Since I cannot do everything, I will not hesitate to do that something I can do". (Rancher's Code)
We may feel that recycling / refusing 1 plastic bag will not make a difference out of the hundreds of tons that finds its way to the dumpsite. But it does.
It's not so much about that one plastic bag. But it's more about the person. Our self-awareness that we always have a choice. Choice to change the way we do things... to break our Earth-unfriendly habits. The choices we make everyday, no matter how little or insignificant they may seem, will impact the Earth long after we're gone. When we start to get that idea and live that idea, then that ONE plastic bag, that ONE hour, starts to matter.
And it is not an ALL OR NONE thing. It can just be ONE thing. We do not need to be radical activists, be in the papers or join the Reds. Its the quiet revolution we do by ourselves that counts.
"More than 15 million Filipinos were estimated to have joined Earth Hour and a total of 647 cities and towns participated, making the Philippines No.1 among all the countries that joined the global event according to WWF.... Greece was second, with 484 participating towns and cities..." (from the Philippine Daily Inquirer, March 30, 2009)
And you are part of that statistic, Erwin. Way to go! Need I say more?...
That is ONE big present for Mother Earth.
