The info in Wikipedia about these giants is really interesting. So, I'm sharing it. They are the largest living mollusk. In the wild, they can live on the average, 100 years or more, weigh more than 200 kg and measure 4 feet across. Wow, if I hurry, maaabutan pa ng anak ko yung mga tinanim ng Miss Earth sa Dive and Trek ;D. When they become adults they have a symbiotic existence with a certain algae that grows on their tissue. The clam spreads out its mantle in the day so the algae gets exposed to the sunlight which it needs to photosynthesize. That's where the clam gets its nutrition. What a diet! And they grow that big... So, that means I'm disturbing their lunch when I coax them to close. Bad! Hindi na po mauulit! As bad as it may sound, I have eaten one in Bantayan Island . I was not a diver yet, so, it doesn't count. Actually if they didn't tell me, I wouldn't have known because the meat was served in bits and pieces. Well, you did not miss a lot. It tasted like tough, over-cooked squid. So, kain na lang tayo ng over-cooked na pusit tapos "Isipin mo na lang, giant clam yan!". ;D OR better yet, wag na lang nating isipin yan because bad thoughts yan!
